A cocktail dress with a cardigan or wrap
What is appropriate for a woman to wear to a Sunday afternoon wedding in January?
Its at a pretty fancy venue, but is being held on a budget, and I don’t think the :MOB or MOG are wearing evening gowns. I don’t want to feel out of place. It is a wedding for two young adults we look at as our own children. Thanks
Unless the invitation says “black tie,” there is no need to wear a floor-length evening gown to a wedding, especially an afternoon wedding, regardless of what the mothers are wearing. Since they are special guests of honor, it’s typical for the mothers to be dressier than the other guests.
If the attire is not specified on the invitation, it’s appropriate to go with something between “church dressy” and “cocktail dressy,” depending on how much you like to dress up - a skirt or dress pants and a nice top, a cocktail dress with a cardigan or wrap, etc, for a woman. Suit and tie for a man.
Here’s the great news - unless you are dressed very inappropriately, no one is going to pay any attention to what you wear. And since you are close to the couple, it’s perfectly fine to call them and ask how dressy the wedding will be.
if the MOB and MOG are not wearing long dresses, then it would be inappropriate for you to. several bridal salons have fancy dresses and two piece suits appropriate for dressy occasions that are not long. davids bridal/ pat catans bridal. have fun
have you ever thought of going to your closest David’s Bridal? They should have some good stuff. My girlfriend and i went to our local one,(just to shop around,but i plan on proposing to her), and they had some really nice dresses.
